1 Staff Categories â–¼

  • All RNs verified on AHPRA register Check registration status is current for all staff counted as RN
  • ENs with notations categorised correctly Endorsements for scheduled medicines affect categorisation
  • EENs allocated to correct column based on duties If doing PCW work that shift, count as PCW not EN
  • Agency staff included and categorised Include agency hours, categorised by actual qualification level

2 Direct Care Activities Only â–¼

Confirm these activities are NOT included in your care minutes:

  • Food preparation excluded Even if care staff do it - meal prep is not direct care
  • Cleaning and housekeeping excluded General facility cleaning is not direct care
  • Laundry excluded Laundry duties are not direct care activities
  • Transport to external appointments excluded Driving residents to appointments is not direct care
  • Admin, rostering, scheduling excluded Administrative tasks are not direct care

Common Mistake

  • Staff doing multiple duties in a shift need time split - only the direct care portion counts

3 Students â–¼

  • Nursing students on placement EXCLUDED Students on clinical placement don't count toward care minutes
  • Employed student nurses INCLUDED correctly If employed (not just on placement), include in appropriate category

4 Allied Health â–¼

Note: Allied health hours are reported separately and do NOT count toward care minutes targets.

  • Physio, OT, speech path, dietitian in allied health column These go in allied health hours, not care minutes
  • Lifestyle staff categorised correctly Diversional/lifestyle staff doing direct care go in care minutes
  • Mental health nurses in correct category Based on AHPRA registration - RN or EN
